Our Journey
From a neighborhood club to a global online academy.
SPM Chess Academy started with a simple idea: if children get the right mentors early, chess can become a lifelong advantage. Over the years, we have transformed living-room sessions into high-energy online rooms where kids from India, the US, the UK, the Middle East, and beyond log in to learn together.
What has stayed constant is our obsession with fundamentals: disciplined practice, honest feedback, and a training environment where children feel safe to experiment, lose, learn, and come back stronger.
2010–2015
Laying the first boards
SPM Chess Academy began as a small coaching group for neighborhood kids in Kolkata, built on the belief that chess can shape how children think about problems, pressure, and possibilities.
2016–2020
From local batches to global rooms
Word-of-mouth from parents and consistent tournament results helped SPM expand into structured batches, online classrooms, and curated study material for learners across cities.
2021–Today
India’s premier online-first chess academy
Today, SPM runs live interactive classes, progression-based levels, and global training rooms that welcome ambitious young players from 10+ countries.

Every SPM batch is intentionally small. This lets coaches track each learner’s growth – not just in rating – but in habits, accuracy, and confidence. We mix structured lesson plans with live sparring, assignments, and detailed game reviews.

How SPM training is structured.
We blend live HD classes, curated assignments, puzzle streaks, and periodic assessments into a single learning blueprint. Students know exactly what they are working on each week, and coaches know exactly where to push.

Structured levels
Every learner is placed into a Level 1–5 program (Beginner through Expert) with clear milestones and periodic evaluations.

Classes are not one-way lectures. Students solve positions, debate ideas, and play out critical lines on live boards with coach commentary.
Tournament-ready support
We help with event selection, pre-game preparation, post-game analysis, and mindset coaching so kids learn to perform when it matters.
